Grant Award Limitations
Grants may only be awarded to:

  • 501(c)3 incorporated organizations or charitable organizations where a 501(c)3 organizations agrees to serve as a fiscal agent.
  • Educational organizations
  • Religious organization (see restrictions below)
  • Government agencies

Grant making Priorities
The EACF shall consider the following priorities for the use of grant funds:

  • Projects that directly benefit the citizens of the Ely area.
  • Projects that receive matching funds or challenge grants.
  • Projects that encourage more effective use of community sources.
  • Projects that promote volunteer participation in community affairs.
  • Projects that benefit children and the elderly.
  • Projects that demonstrate new approaches and techniques in the solution of community problems.
  • Projects that are developed in cooperation with other organizations to eliminate the duplication of sources.

Anti-discrimination Policy

  • The EACF will operate without discrimination as to race, age, religion, gender, or national origin in the consideration of requests and will award grant to organizations and agencies that do not discrimination.

Restrictions

  • Grants will not usually be awarded to support operating expenses of well –established organizations or in response to fund drives for sustaining support.
  • Grants will not usually be made to establish or add to endowment funds.
  • Grants will not generally be used for churches or sectarian religious purposes.
  • Grants will not be made to individuals.
  • Grant projects must be completed within a 1 year of the grant award.

Important Requirements

  • Successful grant recipients must acknowledge EACF on all printed materials when referencing their grant. The EACF will provide a standard paragraph (s) of information that should be included with an organization's press release.

EACF Review Criteria for Grant Applications

Need (community need):

  • Does the need already exist in our community?
  • How does the need relate to the EACF mission. "Our Mission: To enhance community development and quality of life in Ely, Minnesota and the surrounding area through the distribution of endowment fund grants."

Feasibility/impact:

  • Can the project be reasonably accomplished?
  • Will the project have the intended effect?

Organizational Capability:

  • Is the project appropriate for the applicant
  • Is there qualified staff/ volunteers to complete the project?

Resources:

  • Is the budget realistic?
  • Have other potential funding sources been approached and are they attainable?
  • If successful, can the project be self –supporting in the future? ( if more than a one-time effort)

**There maybe exceptions made to the Grant making Policy and Procedures as approved by the Ely Area Community Foundation Board.

    • If this project is to be continued, how will you finance it in the future?
