2010 - $500 grant award to Well Being Development
Project: Educational Materials to promote their new organization and its goals

The mission of Well Being Development is to inspire and foster activities that develop and enhance the well being of residents in and around Babbitt, Ely, Embarrass, Soudan, Tower and Winton. The organization has leased space for a ‘Clubhouse’ that creates an environment for recovery, but is not a treatment facility. The grant award helped pay for brochures and other educational materials to help further their goals. See more information about Well Being Development.

2009 - $500 grant award to the Tower-Soudan Historical Society
Project: Train Depot ‘Man Car’ Restoration

The grant award was used to help buy materials to renovate and complete the interior of the ‘Man Car.’ In the first half of the twentieth century, trains regularly rolled back and forth between Tower, Soudan and Ely for passenger service, transporting miners and moving ore down to Lake Superior. The preservation and restoration of the Tower Depot Museum and train cars, using 100% volunteer labor, helps to maintain a historic legacy. See more information about the Tower-Soudan Historical Society.

2008 Fall Grant Round - $500 grant award to ElyTV in conjunction with the Ely-Winton Historical Society
Project: Preservation of Historical Audio Tapes to Digital Format

ElyTV collaborated with the Ely-Winton Historical Society to transfer historical audio cassette tapes to a digital format. The cassette tapes were deteriorating and precious oral history of the area would be lost without help to preserve them. The final digital CDs copies were given to the Ely-Winton Historical Society. See more information about ElyTV and the Ely-Winton Historical Society.

2008 Spring Grant Round – $500 grant award to the Ely Nordic Ski Club
Project: Hidden Valley Chalet Renovation

This grant helped with completion of the Hidden Valley Chalet renovation. The Ely Nordic Ski Club, which manages the Hidden Valley Recreation area, is an organization run entirely by volunteers that provides year-round outdoor recreation opportunities. The Hidden Valley Chalet had fallen into disrepair over the years and the Ely Nordic Ski Club is now in the final stage of renovation to complete the interior. The renovation project represents a need to invest back into the community and strengthens the image of Ely as an outstanding Nordic ski community. See more information about the Ely Nordic Ski Club.
